Mulilo has announced a commitment of nearly R15 billion at the South Africa Investment Conference 2026, signalling strong confidence in the country’s economic outlook and energy transition pathway.
The investment will support the immediate development of three utility scale solar photovoltaic projects alongside a battery energy storage system. Together, these projects are expected to deliver 716 MW of new export capacity to the national grid, addressing South Africa’s urgent need for reliable and dispatchable power.
The announcement highlights the growing role of private sector investment in advancing the country’s transition to cleaner energy. By deploying capital at speed and scale, developers such as Mulilo are helping to bridge supply gaps while supporting long term system resilience.

Beyond the initial R15 billion commitment, Mulilo is progressing a broader pipeline aligned with a target of 1 GW of new capacity per year. This positions the company to unlock additional capital in the near term and contribute further to the expansion of renewable energy infrastructure.
Seithati Bolipombo, Chief Commercial Officer at Mulilo, said the investment reflects confidence in South Africa’s progress towards a just energy transition supported by private sector participation.

She said the company is focused not only on capital deployment but also on building long term partnerships that enable infrastructure development, job creation and measurable socio economic impact. She added that closer collaboration between government, regulators and industry stakeholders will be critical to accelerating delivery and scaling capacity.
Mulilo said it will continue working with public and private sector partners to ensure that committed projects move efficiently into construction and ultimately deliver sustained impact for the national energy system.
