Engie South Africa has announced the appointment of Sanjeev Mungroo as managing director of renewables and batteries (Renewable & Flex Power -South Africa), effective 1 January 2026. In this role, Mungroo will lead the company’s renewables and batteries business unit in South Africa, overseeing development, construction, operations, and engineering activities across its expanding project portfolio.
He will report to Engie Southern Africa country manager Mo Hoosen, who says Mungroo brings a rare combination of technical grounding, commercial acumen, and deep market insight.
“His experience will be instrumental as Engie expands its renewable and battery footprint in South Africa. It is also meaningful to welcome back someone who was present at the very beginning of our journey here,” Hoosen says.
“This opportunity combines my longstanding passion for unlocking South Africa’s clean‑energy potential with ENGIE’s purpose‑led approach. Having seen the success of the Renewable Energy IPP Programme, the momentum behind private sector power procurement (through bilateral CPPAs and emerging aggregator/trader platforms) and the recently launched Transmission Program, I am excited by this opportunity to participate across this evolving market,” said Mungroo.
