  • Eskom has confirmed the death of one of its employees following a shooting incident involving two staff members from Kriel Power Station.

According to the power utility, the incident occurred while the employees, who were married, were travelling home from work. The male employee sustained fatal gunshot wounds, while his wife was injured and has been admitted to hospital, where she is receiving medical treatment.

Eskom expressed concern over accusations and claims circulating publicly in connection with the incident, cautioning that investigations by the South African Police Service and other authorities are still ongoing. The utility said it is premature and inappropriate to draw conclusions or make definitive claims before law enforcement has completed its work.

The company urged members of the public and the media to avoid spreading unverified information or speculation, and to allow investigators the necessary space to conduct a thorough investigation.

Eskom said it is cooperating fully with authorities and is providing support to the affected family as well as to staff members impacted by the incident. The utility added that it will share further updates as information becomes available.

“Our thoughts are with the family, colleagues, and all those affected by this tragic incident,” Eskom said.
