  • ENGIE South Africa has appointed Sanjeev Mungroo as country manager, effective 1 June 2026, as the company strengthens its leadership footprint in a rapidly changing energy market.

Mungroo steps into the role after rejoining ENGIE earlier this year as managing director for renewables and batteries. His appointment comes at a time when South Africa’s electricity sector is undergoing significant change, driven by market liberalisation, new procurement programmes, and rising demand for reliable and lower carbon power.

With more than 30 years of experience, Mungroo brings a broad background across independent power production, investment banking, engineering, infrastructure, project finance, operations, and business development. He was among ENGIE South Africa’s earliest employees when the company first established operations in the country and returns after a period in banking, where he helped build a leading regional energy finance division.

Mungroo said the role represents both a professional responsibility and a personal milestone as the country enters a critical phase in its energy transition.

He added that his focus will be on strengthening ENGIE’s contribution across power generation, battery storage, energy management, and customer solutions that support businesses, communities, and the wider electricity system.

ENGIE said the appointment supports its strategy to play a long-term role in South Africa’s energy transition through investment, project development, operations, and practical solutions for customers as the market continues to open.
