The African Development Bank Group has launched the Mission 300 Progress Tracker, a public digital platform designed to monitor and showcase progress towards expanding electricity access across Africa.
The platform was unveiled during the African Development Bank Group’s 2026 Annual Meetings in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo. It provides real time data on electricity access initiatives across the continent, offering project level visibility into Mission 300 supported operations.
Users can track implementation progress by country, including electricity connections, financing commitments, operational status and geographic coverage. Mission 300 is a joint initiative aimed at connecting an additional 300 million Africans to electricity by 2030.
At launch, the tracker reported that more than 5.2 million people have been connected through active African Development Bank supported Mission 300 projects. The platform currently covers 74 active energy access projects across multiple African countries.
The tracker also shows that a further 35 million people are expected to gain access to electricity through the existing project portfolio. To date, US$9 billion has been approved for Mission 300 aligned operations, including US$6 billion financed directly by the African Development Bank. In addition, 30 National Energy Compacts have been endorsed under the initiative.
Dr Kevin Kariuki, Vice President for Power, Energy, Climate and Green Growth at the African Development Bank Group, said the platform was created to make progress towards universal electricity access more transparent and measurable.
“The African Development Bank Mission 300 Progress Tracker allows governments, partners, investors and citizens to see in real time how the Bank is helping expand electricity access across Africa, and where additional effort is still needed,” he said.
Kariuki added that the African Development Bank and the World Bank have together reached more than 50 million people since Mission 300 was launched, highlighting the impact of coordinated financing, policy reforms and project implementation.
The platform features several flagship projects that are already delivering results. In Kenya, the Last Mile Connectivity Project has provided new household electricity connections benefiting more than 815,756 people. In Sierra Leone, the Bo Kenema Distribution System Project has delivered new household connections serving approximately 195,730 people.
Regional infrastructure investments are also highlighted. The Rusumo Falls Hydropower Project supplies electricity to Burundi, Rwanda and Tanzania, while the CLSG transmission interconnector has expanded electricity access across several West African countries and has already reached 6,994 people in Côte d’Ivoire.
By bringing project level performance data into a single public platform, the African Development Bank aims to strengthen transparency, improve monitoring and accelerate the delivery of electricity access across the continent as Mission 300 advances towards its 2030 target.
