- The Zambian Ministry of Energy in partnership with the GET FiT Zambia has announced that 10 companies or consortia have been shortlisted for their 100mw Solar Pv Tender.
- 41 project submissions were reviewed from 24 of the world’s leading solar power developers and investors.
- The shortlisted companies will be invited to submit full technical and financial proposals.
The shortlist was determined following a process whereby applications were evaluated against a set of technical and minimum criteria and thereafter ranked according to a scoring approach that rewarded solar PV installed capacity globally, track-record in bringing renewable energy IPPs to financial close in Africa, and Zambian ownership.
The evaluation was a coordinated effort between the Department of Energy and the GET Fit Secretariat, led by Multiconsult as the Tender Agent, with an independent Investment Committee of five regional experts approving the final shortlist. The shortlist consists of the following companies:
- Building Energy S.P.A
- EDF Energies Nouvelles
- Enel Green Power S.P.A.
- Engie Afrique S.A.
- Globeleq African Holdings Ltd & Aurora Power Solutions
- InnoVent SAS & Copperbelt Energy Corporation Plc
- Mulilo Group Holdings Proprietary Ltd
- Phanes Group
- Scatec Solar ASA
- SolarReserve Development Co
Each of the shortlisted companies or consortia will submit proposals for up to two projects of up to 20MW each. It is expected that at least 5 projects will be selected for implementation. At the time of launch of the Request for Proposal (RFP), it is expected that the standardized project agreements developed under the GET FiT Zambia programme will also be released.
Jan Martin Witte, a Director at KfW, notes that “we are very pleased with the outcome of the RFQ process, has attracted significant interest and resulting in a shortlist of companies with extensive and reputable track-records globally and from Africa. We are confident that this provides the foundations for a competitive and successful RFP process which will ultimately provide clean and affordable power for the people of Zambia.”
Will Pearson, Director of GET FiT Zambia, emphasised the constructive role played by KFW’s Zambian partners on GET FiT: “The Department of Energy and ZESCO have proven to be capable and dedicated partners during this process. This outcome would of course never have been possible without their commitment to GET FiT, as a central component of their own REFiT Strategy. We look forward to working with our Zambian counterparts as GET FiT continues to scale up its activities.”
