  • The South African government now allows wheeling using Eskom’s transmission and distrubition infrastructure.
  • Wheeling is the transportation of electric energy (megawatt-hours) from within an electrical grid to an electrical load (user) outside the grid boundaries.
  • This video gives a simple overview of what electricity wheeling is, the benefits of wheeling, and how municipalities can facilitate wheeling to their customers. 
  • The video was developed by Sustainable Energy Africa, as part of a project funded by the Western Cape Government.

SOLA Group commissioned the first wheeling project in South Africa. Their 10MW solar PV project in the Northern Cape offsets power used by Amazon South Africa via a wheeling agreement with Eskom. Read more
