  • A 119 MW fuel oil power plant will be developed in Ouagadougou and commissioned in late 2026.

Aksa Energy has signed a 20 year guaranteed power purchase agreement with Sonabel, the national electricity utility of Burkina Faso, marking a further expansion of the company’s footprint in Africa’s power sector. The agreement will see the development of a 119 MW fuel oil power plant in Ouagadougou, the country’s capital, with commissioning scheduled for the final quarter of 2026.

The project forms part of Aksa Energy’s broader growth strategy focused on delivering reliable power infrastructure across emerging African markets. Once operational, the plant is expected to play a key role in meeting Burkina Faso’s rising electricity demand by providing a stable and uninterrupted supply to the national grid.

As Türkiye’s largest publicly listed independent power producer, Aksa Energy continues to scale its international portfolio through long term utility partnerships. Under the agreement with Sonabel, the company will be responsible for the financing, construction and operation of the power facility.

The investment is also expected to generate wider economic benefits, including the use of local supply chains and the creation of employment opportunities during both the construction and operational phases.
