The African Smart Cities Summit Takes Place 8 June in Johannesburg

  • Africa is projected to have the fastest urban growth rate in the world and by 2050, Africa’s cities will be home to an additional 950 million people.
  • With this expected population growth and rate of urbanisation, there comes a need to manage environmental, social and economic sustainability of resources.

Smart cities allow citizens and local government authorities to work together to launch initiatives and use smart technologies to manage assets and resources in the growing urban environment.

Providing African solutions for Africa’s cities

The African Smart Cities Summit will provide practical solutions to implement smart methodologies in current and future infrastructure, whilst creating new revenue streams and operational efficiencies to help save money for governments and citizens alike. Ensuring sustainability is also an important aspect that could deliver environmental and societal benefits.

The African Smart Cities Summit takes place on the 8th June 2022 at the Gallagher Convention Centre, Johannesburg, South Africa. The Africa Smart Cities Summit is co-located with the Big 5 Construct South Africa Summit and Totally Concrete Expo

Green Building Africa promotes the need for net carbon zero buildings and cities in Africa. We are fiercely independent and encourage outlying thinkers to contribute to the #netcarbonzero movement. Climate change is upon us and now is the time to react in a more diverse and broader approach to sustainability in the built environment. We challenge architects, property developers, urban planners, renewable energy professionals and green building specialists. We also challenge the funding houses and regulators and the role they play in facilitating investment into green projects. Lastly, we explore and investigate new technology and real-time data to speed up the journey in realising a net carbon zero environment for our children.
