  • South Africa’s state owned and state run energy utility, Eskom, reports  Stage 1 loadshedding will be implemented from 05:00 until 16:00 today, followed by Stage 3 loadshedding until midnight.
  • This pattern will be repeated on Friday.
  • Eskom will publish another update should any significant changes occur.

Breakdowns currently amount to 16 356MW of generating capacity while the generating capacity out of service for planned maintenance is 3 023MW. Over the past 24 hours, a generating unit each at Duvha, Grootvlei and Majuba power stations were returned to service. In the same period, a generation unit each at Kriel and Majuba power stations were taken out of service due to breakdowns.

The delays in returning to service a generating unit each at Grootvlei, Hendrina and Tutuka power stations are contributing to the current capacity constraints. Eskom teams are working around the clock to return these generating units to service over the next few days.

Green Building Africa promotes the need for net carbon zero buildings and cities in Africa. We are fiercely independent and encourage outlying thinkers to contribute to the #netcarbonzero movement. Climate change is upon us and now is the time to react in a more diverse and broader approach to sustainability in the built environment. We challenge architects, property developers, urban planners, renewable energy professionals and green building specialists. We also challenge the funding houses and regulators and the role they play in facilitating investment into green projects. Lastly, we explore and investigate new technology and real-time data to speed up the journey in realising a net carbon zero environment for our children.
