News flash

  • Insurance giant Sanlam has commissioned a grid-tied 3 MW solar project at its head Belville head office campus in Cape Town.
  • The solar carport system also features three EV charge stations.
  • Sanlam is conducting feasibility studies to deploy similar projects at other Sanlam-owned buildings.

“It was a real honour for me to unveil the plaque at Sanlam’s Bellville Head Office, marking the official launch of their 3MW solar PV system and EV charging stations. With over 6 million kWh removed from the national grid annually — enough to power 580 homes — and R175 million in projected savings over 20 years, this investment is a strong signal of business confidence in Bellville and our city. It aligns with our economic growth mission for Cape Town: driving sustainability, reducing pressure on public infrastructure, and supporting resilient business operations in key economic nodes,” said Mr James Vos: Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth.

Green Building Africa promotes the need for net carbon zero buildings and cities in Africa. We are fiercely independent and encourage outlying thinkers to contribute to the #netcarbonzero movement. Climate change is upon us and now is the time to react in a more diverse and broader approach to sustainability in the built environment. We challenge architects, property developers, urban planners, renewable energy professionals and green building specialists. We also challenge the funding houses and regulators and the role they play in facilitating investment into green projects. Lastly, we explore and investigate new technology and real-time data to speed up the journey in realising a net carbon zero environment for our children.
