- Renewable energy company Qair has been awarded 300 MW in Tunisia for the development of two solar projects located in Khobna (198 MWp) and Gafsa (100 MWp).
The Khobna and Gafsa projects are part of a broader tender launched by the Tunisian Ministry of Industry, Mines, and Energy, which seeks to implement solar photovoltaic initiatives totaling 500 MW as a first phase of an extensive plan to generate 1,700 MW of renewable energy through concession agreements.
Once operational, all projects under this tender—including those spearheaded by Qair—are set to have significant contributions to Tunisia’s energy landscape by 2027. They are expected to generate approximately 1,000 GWh of electricity annually, representing about 5% of Tunisia’s national electricity generation.
Beyond economic benefits, these projects will foster regional development by creating jobs and contribute to sustainability by avoiding roughly 500,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.
This latest achievement comes just one month after the official inauguration of Qair’s Feriana project in the Kasserine governorate, which construction began in mid-2024. Developed in partnership with Mazarine Energy, the two 10 MWp photovoltaic farms will produce 44 GWh annually, supplying clean electricity to 30,000 households while reducing CO₂ emissions by 17,000 tonnes each year. The project is set to be commissioned in February 2025.
