- Fifteen African Energy Ministers and senior continental leaders to attend.
- Mission 300 Day and Ministerial Roundtable headline strategic programme.
- Africa requires up to US $500 billion in power sector investment by 2030
With just two weeks remaining before the upcoming edition of Africa Energy Indaba, preparations are entering their final phase as high level participation continues to build momentum.
The event is expected to bring together fifteen African Energy Ministers, the African Union Commissioner, representatives from Africa’s power pools, continental utilities, leading investors, regulators and infrastructure developers under one roof in Cape Town. The gathering remains one of the continent’s most established platforms for policy dialogue, procurement alignment and strategic energy partnerships.
Strategic platform for policy and investment alignment
The Indaba has consistently positioned itself as a meeting point where governments, utilities and private sector stakeholders engage directly on Africa’s evolving power priorities. With ministerial participation at this scale, the 2026 edition is expected to focus on practical outcomes aimed at accelerating power sector transformation across the continent.
Liz Hart, Managing Director of the Africa Energy Indaba, said the platform plays a critical convening role at a time when coordinated action is essential.
“The Africa Energy Indaba provides a critical platform for alignment between governments, utilities, investors and solution providers. With ministerial participation at this level, meaningful dialogue can translate into tangible action,” she said.
Programme highlights reflect continental priorities
Key programme features will include Mission 300 Day, hosted by the World Bank, the African Development Bank, the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet, Sustainable Energy for All and the Rockefeller Foundation.
Additional highlights include the Indaba Energy Leaders Dialogue hosted by Pele Green Energy, a Ministerial Roundtable hosted by AUDA-NEPAD and GET.invest, the Power Pools Forum, and a series of Deep Dive Energy Forums addressing generation, transmission, finance and market reform.
The programme will also feature a dynamic exhibition showcase of leading energy technologies and solution providers, alongside the South African Energy Investment Forum hosted by the Department of Electricity and Energy.
Closing the investment gap
Africa’s energy gap remains one of the defining development challenges of the decade. To meet rising demand, expand generation capacity and achieve universal electricity access by 2030, the continent will require a significant scale up in infrastructure delivery and capital deployment.
Industry studies estimate that Africa will need between US $450 billion and US $500 billion in power sector investment by 2030, equivalent to approximately US $60 billion to US $65 billion per year. This funding is required to expand generation, strengthen transmission networks and improve electricity access across both urban and rural markets.
Persistent infrastructure shortfalls mean that hundreds of millions of people still lack reliable electricity supply. At the same time, financing gaps, particularly in clean energy and grid infrastructure, continue to constrain progress toward industrialisation, energy security and sustainable economic growth.
As African markets accelerate grid expansion, renewable energy integration and infrastructure investment, the Africa Energy Indaba presents a strategic opportunity for stakeholders to engage directly with the decision makers shaping the continent’s energy future.
With delegate registrations accelerating and capacity filling rapidly, stakeholders across the energy value chain are encouraged to secure their participation in what is set to be a defining continental dialogue on Africa’s energy transition.
