The Government of the Republic of Maldives is implementing Accelerating Sustainable Private Investment in Renewable Energy (ASPIRE) Project with the support of Scaling Up Renewable Energy Program (SREP) and invites investors for Installation of 5MW Grid-tied Solar Photovoltaic System in the Greater Malé Region under Design, Build, Finance, Own, Operate, and Transfer Basis.
Bidding will be conducted through International Competitive Bidding (ICB) procedures consistent with article 3.18 of the World Bank’s Guidelines. A complete set of bidding documents and related documentation is available from 4th February 2019 on Ministry of Finance website www.finance.gov.mv for downloading free of cost.
The tender closes on or before 1300hrs Maldivian time on 18th March 2019, at which time they will be opened in the presence of the Bidders who wish to attend the opening.
The government has most recently indicated a target to install renewable electricity generation that meets up to 30% of daytime peak load in all inhabited islands within the next four years. This is a significant reduction from the previously communicated aim for carbon neutrality and 100% renewable electricity by 2020. The country depends heavily on diesel generators as its primary power source.
The Maldives is a tropical nation in the Indian Ocean composed of 26 ring-shaped atolls, which are made up of more than 1,000 coral islands. If sea level were instead to rise by 3 feet (1 meter), the Maldives could be almost completely inundated by about 2085.
