- JA Solar and Golden Stone Energy achieve 28.2% certified efficiency for BC solar cells.
- New HBC technology combines TOPCon, HJT and BC architectures into a single platform.
- Chinese solar manufacturers are accelerating commercialisation of next generation BC technologies.
JA Solar has announced a major breakthrough in back contact solar cell technology after its latest BC solar cell achieved a certified conversion efficiency of 28.2%, setting a new industry record for BC cell performance.
The result was independently certified by TÜV Rheinland and marks a significant milestone for the company’s HyperGen technology platform, which is being jointly developed with Golden Stone Energy.
According to Golden Stone Energy, the record-breaking cell is based on Hybrid BC technology, also known as HBC. The technology builds on conventional BC cell architecture by integrating heterojunction passivation with tunnelling oxide and polysilicon structures.
The company said the approach combines the strengths of TOPCon, heterojunction and BC technologies into a single cell structure, delivering higher conversion efficiencies, lower manufacturing costs and improved process stability.
The first batch of HBC cells achieving a certified efficiency of 28.2% is being viewed as an important engineering validation milestone for the technology, particularly as the global solar industry intensifies efforts to commercialise next generation high efficiency photovoltaic products.
