- South Africa’s Public Enterprises Minister, Mr Pravin Gordhan, has approved the unbundling of Eskom’s distribution assets into a new state-owned entity.
- South Africa’s president, Cyril Ramaphosa, announced the unbundling of both the transmission and distribution divisions back in February 2019 amidst much fanfare. Read more
- Both divisions have fallen behind in much needed new capacity infrastructure rollout.
In a letter addressed to Eskom Chairman, Mpho Makwana, Gordhan penned his approval which is required under the Public Finance Management Act.
