- The government of Ghana has commissioned a 5 MW floating solar plant on the 404MW Bui hydroelectric dam in Ghana.
- The first 5 MW pilot will be followed by 50MW block phases, bringing total capacity to 250 MW.
At the inauguration ceremony held last month, Senior Minister, Nana Akufo-Addo stated that “this further shows my government’s commitment to deliver on the promise to increase the Renewable Energy component in our Energy Mix to 10% by 2030.”
The project, when completed, will add 250 megawatts of power to augment the Bui Generating Station’s 404MW hydroelectric dam.
The solar plant was connected to the transmission system of the 404 MW Bui hydropower dam, which was commissioned in 2013 by the Chinese company Sinohydro. The large floating PV project is being developed by the Bui Power Authority (BPA), a company created in 2007 to operate the dam.
