- Kenya Power Company has signed a Power Purchase Agreement with Ethiopian Electric Power which paves the way for Kenya to import power from Ethiopia.
- The agreement was signed by the company’s acting managing Director Geoffrey Muli and Ethiopian Electric Power Chief Executive Officer Ashebir Balcha at Stima Plaza last Thursday.
“In the first three years, Kenya will get a maximum firm capacity of 200MW and thereafter a maximum firm capacity of 400 MW for the remainder of the 25-year PPA.” said Kenya Power in a statement.

Ethiopia is already have a power purchase agreement with Sudan and Djibouti, and has signed a memorandum of understanding with Somaliland, Tanzania, South Sudan and other African countries to sell electricity.

The construction work of the Ethio-Kenya 500 KV high Voltage power transmission line and AC-DC Convertor station project was started in 2008 and completed at a cost of more than 183 million dollars.
