Ethiopia Confirms it Will Go Ahead With 2nd filling of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam in July 2021

  • The Government of Ethiopia said that nothing would stop the 2nd filling of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD’s) reservoir in July 2021.
  • The above remark was made last week in a joint briefing between Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Mr Demeke Mekonnen, Minister of Water, Irrigation and Energy Mr Seleshi Bekele (Ph.D.) as well as Ministry of Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary Ambassador Mr Woineshet Tadesse.

Noting that the construction of the dam is going on as planned, Seleshi appreciated the tireless efforts the government of South Africa and its leaders waged to bridge the gaps between the negotiating parties.
