Eskom launches Agripreneur Training at decommissioning Komati coal power station

  • Eskom reports that the decommissioned Komati Coal Power Station recently launched the much-anticipated Agripreneur Training initiative.
  • The initiative is part of Eskom’s broader Just Energy Transition (JET) Strategy, designed not only to pivot towards greener technologies but also to ensure that local communities are uplifted and included in the shift to a low-carbon economy.  

The first group of trainees consists of 17 passionate local community members who are ready to transform agriculture into a powerhouse of prosperity. These trailblazers represent a diverse mix of youth, women, and emerging farmers, all driven by a common goal: to turn fertile ideas into flourishing enterprises.

Beyond the training, this initiative offers access to mentorship and potential funding pathways for viable agribusiness proposals. The broader vision is to create a self-sustaining agricultural hub that could eventually supply local markets, create jobs, and even contribute to regional food exports.
