- Empower New Energy has successfully commissioned a 1.1 MWp solar photovoltaic plant for global beauty giant L’Oréal Egypt.
- The project is part of L’Oréal’s ambitious global target to become 100 % powered by renewable energy and to reduce CO2 emissions by 57%.
What sets this project apart is Empower’s transformative equity-based financing model. By eliminating traditional debt requirements, the Norwegian investor enabled seamless and rapid project execution from planning to commissioning, without the bureaucratic delays that typically plague debt-financed renewable installations.
The project was delivered through Egypt’s net metering framework via a Power Sales Agreement, executed in partnership with Smart Engineering Solutions (SES), Egypt’s premier solar EPC firm, renowned for delivering complex renewable energy projects across the region.
The solar installation directly powers L’Oréal’s acclaimed “L’Oréal for the Future” sustainability programme, supporting the company’s ambitious 2030 targets: 100% renewable energy across all operated sites and a staggering 57% reduction in absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions compared to 2019 baseline.
The installation, which sits at L’Oréal’s manufacturing hub in 10th of Ramadan City, represents more than just clean energy. It’s a blueprint for sustainable industrial growth across Africa. By securing stable, predictable energy costs, the solar plant strengthens L’Oréal Egypt’s manufacturing operations, safeguarding hundreds of local jobs while enhancing the company’s competitive position in regional markets.
