- Mozambique’s minister of mineral resources and energy, Mr Max Tonela, has inuaguarted the construction of a 19MW solar power plant in Cuamba, Niassa province, northern Mozambique.
- Capex for the project comes in at USD 32 million.
- Emerging Africa Infrastructure Fund has provided funding for the project.
- Globeleq and Source Capital are leading the development in partnership with Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM)
The plant will be the third “large-scale” projected in the country. Scatec commissioned their 40MW plant in Mocuba, central region in July 2019, while French IPP Neoen has a 41MW Solar farm in Metoro, northern region under construction. Read more
“The projects promoted by the Mozambican government in the area of renewable energy are another contribution to achieving the goal of universal access to energy, which aims to bring electricity to all Mozambican homes by 2030,” said Tonela.
Work on the Cuamba solar power plant will last 12 months and create 100 jobs during construction and ten in the operating phase.
