  • Kenya’s power transmission utility, KETRACO, and the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum hosted French Minister Delegate for Francophonie and International Partnerships, H.E. Thani Mohamed Soilihi, for a site visit to the National System Control Centre (NSCC) project in Embakasi yesterday.
  • Welcomed by Mr. Alex Kamau Wachira, PS Energy, and Dr. John Mativo MBS, Managing Director and CEO of Kenya Electricity Transmission Co. Ltd. (KETRACO), the visit reaffirmed France–Kenya cooperation in powering a more resilient, green, and integrated electricity grid.

Upon completion, this KES 12 billion project, financed by France through AFD and the French Treasury, with capacity-building support from the European Union, will be the solution to frequent power shortages, ensuring a reliable and stable electricity network. It promises environmental benefits by integrating renewable energy, social advantages by improving electricity access, and economic gains by reducing outages and transmission losses.

The NSCC will enhance real-time grid supervision, ensure stable and reliable power, integrate more renewables, and strengthen regional interconnector coordination. The project is scheduled for completion by February 6, 2028.

Green Building Africa promotes the need for net carbon zero buildings and cities in Africa. We are fiercely independent and encourage outlying thinkers to contribute to the #netcarbonzero movement. Climate change is upon us and now is the time to react in a more diverse and broader approach to sustainability in the built environment. We challenge architects, property developers, urban planners, renewable energy professionals and green building specialists. We also challenge the funding houses and regulators and the role they play in facilitating investment into green projects. Lastly, we explore and investigate new technology and real-time data to speed up the journey in realising a net carbon zero environment for our children.
