Australia to Build World’s Largest Solar Farm – 10 Gigawatts

  • Sun Cable is developing the worlds largest solar project in Australia.
  • The 10 gigawatt project is expected to start producing power by 2026.
  • The US$14 billion mega energy project, which includes battery storage, will take up about 12,000 hectares on a cattle station halfway between Alice Springs and Darwin.
  • The project will supply Australia plus Singapore and Indonesia via a 4500km high voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission system.

The Australia-ASEAN Power Link (AAPL) will integrate three technology groups – the world’s largest battery, the world’s largest solar farm, and a 4,500km high voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission system from the 10 GWsolar / 30GWh storage facility to Darwin, Singapore and eventually Indonesia.

It will provide dispatchable renewable electricity to the Northern Territory and will supply up to 20% of Singapore’s electricity demand.

By the end of 2027, Sun Cable’s AAPL will be able to provide a significant amount of renewable energy to the Northern Territory and export approximately $2 billion of solar energy per year to Singapore, connecting Australia into the ASEAN Power Grid.
