  • Chint New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. (Astronergy) and JA Solar Technology Co., Ltd. have announced that they have reached a comprehensive global settlement to end all ongoing patent disputes, marking a significant step toward strengthening intellectual property cooperation within the rapidly evolving photovoltaic (PV) industry.

As China’s PV sector accelerates its shift toward high-quality, innovation-driven growth, both Astronergy and JA Solar have expanded investment in research and development and built extensive intellectual property portfolios. The companies emphasised their shared commitment to protecting intellectual property rights and supporting the sector’s long-term sustainable development.

According to the joint statement, the companies and their affiliates agreed to three key terms:

  • Termination of all ongoing global legal proceedings related to their patent disputes.
  • Cross-licensing of TOPCon-related patents, enabling both sides to use each other’s technologies.
  • A mutual pledge not to initiate future TOPCon-related patent litigation against one another in any jurisdiction for the duration of the agreement.

The settlement, the companies said, demonstrates their dedication to integrity, innovation, mutual benefit, and pragmatic cooperation. Industry observers view the agreement as a model for healthier intellectual property practices amid intensifying competition in advanced PV technologies.

Both firms signalled that the agreement is only a starting point. Moving forward, Astronergy and JA Solar plan to deepen collaboration in next-generation PV technologies, accelerate commercialisation of high-efficiency products, and pursue broader scenario-based innovation.

The companies expressed confidence that the resolution will help create a more orderly and dynamic innovation environment, support fair competition, and strengthen global efforts toward a sustainable, low-carbon energy future.
