Appeal against environmental authorisation provided to TotalEnergies for well drilling in South West Coast of South Africa

  • EMS Foundation (EMS) and the Climate Justice Charter Movement (CJCM) have appeal the environmental authorisation provided to TEEPSA for the exploration well drilling by TotalEnergies in Blocks 5/6/7 South West Coast of South Africa. Read more 

The Department of Environmental Affairs officials acknowledged receipt of the appeal presented by Cullinan and Associates, environmental lawyers acting for the EMS Foundation and the Climate Justice Charter Movement on Wednesday the 10th of May 2023. Both appellants are registered Interested and Affected Parties and have previously submitted comments in respect of the Scoping Report and the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment.

EMS and CJCM believe that the decisionmaker failed to give adequate consideration to the public comments submitted by the appellant and other I&AP’s during the Public Participation Process. The decision maker’s decision is therefore neither reasonable nor rational.
