Algeria starts construction of 80MW solar project in Al-Abadla

  • The Ministry of Energy and Mines in Algeria has commenced construction of an 80 MW solar power plant in Al-Abadla in the Bechar province which is part is part of the countryโ€™s national program to build 15 solar PV plants with a combined 3.2 GW capacity across 12 provinces.

The countryโ€™s Energy Minister, Mohamed Arkab, laid the foundation stone at the 1.6 km2 site during an official visit to launch several development projects across Bechar. The first phase of the plant, to be carried out and connected to the national grid by state firm Sonelgaz in partnership with Chinaโ€™s CWE.

The 80 MW project will be delivered between December 2025 and January 2026 in 2 phases.
