  • ACCIONA Energía has announced an agreement to sell its majority stake in two long-standing renewable energy assets in South Africa to Cennergi, a wholly owned subsidiary of Exxaro Resources Limited and one of the country’s major renewable energy producers.
  • The deal values the assets at an enterprise value of €255 million.

The transaction covers ACCIONA Energía’s 55% share in the Gouda wind farm (138 MW) and the Sishen solar plant (94 MWp). The assets, operational since 2015 and 2014 respectively, are owned through ACCIONA Energía Internacional, in which AXA holds a 20% interest and Bestinver Infra FCR a 5% stake. The remaining 45% is held by Royal Bafokeng Holdings (25%), Soul City (10%), and Community Trust (10%).

In addition to the generation assets, Cennergi will also acquire ACCIONA Energía’s 80% stake in the operations and maintenance company overseeing both facilities. The deal is expected to close in 2026 following standard regulatory approvals. ACCIONA Energía anticipates a capital gain of approximately €65 million, with the assets supported by €100 million in project financing.

The sale marks another milestone in ACCIONA Energía’s ongoing asset rotation strategy, introduced in November 2023. Since launching the initiative, the company has secured agreements to divest more than 1.4 GW of renewable capacity across Costa Rica, Spain, and Peru, totalling over €2 billion in value. The strategy aims to reinforce the company’s financial position while underscoring strong market demand for its renewable portfolio.
