  • Zambia launches CFIP to scale up grid connected solar PV and cut emissions.
  • Programme targets local and international IPPs, including ZESCO subsidiaries.
  • Applications close 31 May 2026.

The Government of Zambia has opened applications for its Carbon Feed In Premium Programme, a results based financing mechanism aimed at accelerating investment in large scale solar power projects.

The initiative is being implemented by the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment in partnership with the Ministry of Energy. It is designed to support the country’s energy transition by enabling new grid connected solar photovoltaic capacity while delivering measurable emissions reductions.

The programme is open to both domestic and international independent power producers, as well as ZESCO and its subsidiaries. Other investors interested in Zambia’s power sector are also eligible to participate.

Projects must be located within Zambia and demonstrate clear climate and development benefits, including verifiable emissions reductions aligned with national targets. The CFIP model is expected to improve project bankability by providing performance linked financial incentives tied to carbon outcomes.

Interested applicants are required to download the Call for Proposals and application documents from the Ministry of Energy website HERE. Submit your completed Application Form and Project Cash Flow Template to Cfip.administrator@mgee.gov.zm, no later than 31 May 2026.

The launch of the programme reflects Zambia’s growing focus on mobilising private sector capital to expand renewable energy capacity and strengthen energy security in line with its climate commitments.
