Three EPC’s shortlisted for construction of 358MW Mpatamanga Hydropower Project in Malawi

  • Mpatamanga Hydro Power Limited (MHPL) has announced the shortlist of companies invited to submit detailed proposals for the 358MW Mpatamanga Hydropower Project in Malawi, a major initiative set to nearly double the country’s electricity capacity through renewable hydropower. 

Located on the Shire River, the  project will harness water from Lake Malawi to generate electricity. The project is situated in the southern region, covering the Blantyre and Neno districts. MHPL aims to strengthen Malawi’s energy infrastructure and contribute to sustainable development.

Each package will receive specific Request for Proposal (RfP) documents, with instructions and evaluation criteria expected to be issued in the fourth quarter of 2024. The financial close and the start of main construction are scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2025.
