  • South Africa’s newly approved Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) sets the stage for a transformational energy shift – targeting gas and nuclear to account for 16% of total generation capacity by 2042, up from just 3%. With an estimated R2.23 trillion in investment planned for new energy infrastructure, gas is poised to become the backbone of Africa’s energy security and industrial growth.

Across the continent, nations are fast-tracking gas exploration, infrastructure, and market development to drive industrialisation, energy access, and economic resilience. From Mozambique’s LNG corridors to Namibia’s offshore discoveries, Africa’s gas narrative is rapidly evolving — and now is the time to position your business at the centre of this opportunity.

The 11th edition of the Africa Gas Forum will convene on 5 March 2026 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC), alongside the well-established Africa Energy Indaba, marking a pivotal moment for the continent’s gas sector.  With the release of the latest national energy planning and continental gas demand indicators, the Forum arrives at a time of accelerating momentum for gas in Africa’s energy future.

About Author

Green Building Africa promotes the need for net carbon zero buildings and cities in Africa. We are fiercely independent and encourage outlying thinkers to contribute to the #netcarbonzero movement. Climate change is upon us and now is the time to react in a more diverse and broader approach to sustainability in the built environment. We challenge architects, property developers, urban planners, renewable energy professionals and green building specialists. We also challenge the funding houses and regulators and the role they play in facilitating investment into green projects. Lastly, we explore and investigate new technology and real-time data to speed up the journey in realising a net carbon zero environment for our children.
