South Africa: North West Premier Wants to Build a Solar Panel Manufacturing Facility in Stilfontein

  • North West Province Premier, Mr Bushy Maape said that preliminary estimates indicate that the Province has the potential to attract at least R50 billion worth of investment in the renewable energy space. 
  • He was speaking at the state of province address at the sitting of the North West Provincial Legislature on 24 February 2023. 

The Executive Council has resolved to formalize our expression of interest to participate in the Solar panels manufacturing initiative coordinated by ISA, and have mandated the North West Development Corporation to host this initiative. “We have identified Stilfontein in the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District as a potential location of the plant subject to feasibility study confirmation,” said Maape.

“We have also established a joint Technical Team of Experts with the North West University to revise the Provincial Energy Strategy, in order to give appropriate focused attention to the provincial energy security and load shedding mitigation strategy,” added Maape.
