South Africa Energy Crisis Update: Eskom generation breakdowns are 18016MW while 3987 MW is out of service for planned maintenance

South Africa Energy Crisis Update

  • Stage 6 loadshedding will be implemented until 05:00 on Monday, while Stage 4 loadshedding will be implemented from 05:00 until 16:00 on Monday.
  • This pattern of Stage 4 loadshedding from 05:00 until 16:00 and Stage 6 loadshedding from 16:00 to 05:00 will be repeated daily until further notice. 

Breakdowns are currently at 18 016MW of generating capacity while the generating capacity out of service for planned maintenance is 3 987MW.

During the last 24 hours, a generating unit at Kriel Power Station has returned to service.

In the same period, two other generation units at Kriel and a unit at Matla power stations were taken out of service due to breakdowns. In addition, the delay in returning units to service at Arnot, Camden, Kendal and two units each at Hendrina and Tutuka power stations continue to add to the current capacity constraints.
