- President Cyril Ramaphosa has hailed the launch of Sasol’s new Integrated Processing Facility (IPF) in Inhassoro, Mozambique, as a landmark achievement in regional energy cooperation and a catalyst for long-term economic development.
The IPF was officially launched during the 4th Mozambique–South Africa Bi-National Commission, with President Ramaphosa describing the facility as the product of years of joint exploration, investment and operational collaboration between Sasol and the Government of Mozambique.
“This groundbreaking facility is a symbol of the longstanding energy cooperation between our two countries,” President Ramaphosa said. “It represents a vital step toward strengthening our shared energy security and unlocking the full potential of Mozambique’s hydrocarbon resources.”
The new facility forms part of the Production Sharing Agreement (PSA) project, which will supply gas, light oil and cooking gas to the domestic market while supporting power generation and downstream industries. The President emphasized that the gas trade remains central to the region’s economic future as the long-producing Pande and Temane reserves near depletion.
He called for continued innovation and joint investment in infrastructure, regulatory alignment and increased regional demand to attract future upstream investment. President Ramaphosa also highlighted the facility’s broader socio-economic impact, including new opportunities for local businesses in transport, catering, maintenance and services, as well as skills development programmes focused on women and youth.
“Sasol’s commitment to environmental, social and governance excellence is particularly important,” he noted. “Projects of this nature must not only power industries, they must transform the fortunes of communities.”
Sasol acknowledged the support of both governments, local authorities and engineering teams who contributed to the project’s successful delivery.
