- The Federal Government of Somalia has announced the launch of a major renewable-energy procurement initiative aimed at enhancing electricity access across public health facilities in the northeastern region of the country. The project is financed by the World Bank under the Somali Electricity Sector Recovery Project.
According to an official notice, the government intends to use part of the funding to support the design, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of hybrid/off-grid solar photovoltaic (PV) systems with battery energy storage for 22 health facilities. The contract also includes one year of operations and maintenance services.
The Ministry of Energy and Water Resources stated that payments for the contract will be processed through the World Bank’s Direct Payment disbursement method, except in cases where the contract stipulates payment via a letter of credit.
The delivery timeline for the project is set at eight months from the effective date. Officials also confirmed that solar hybrid inverters may be used instead of separate PV inverters and battery inverter/chargers, provided they meet all performance specifications outlined in the project’s employer requirements.
Interested and eligible bidders are invited to submit sealed bids by 10:30 a.m. on January 15, 2026.
