- SOLA’s Springbok Solar Power Project has reached commercial operation.
- The 195 MW solar PV facility is Africa’s first multi-buyer wheeling project with a virtual wheeling PPA for Vodacom, expanding access to clean power for businesses across the grid.
Springbok Solar Power Plant was issued with an EA for the development of a 195 MW photovoltaic solar facility and associated infrastructure on the Farm Weltevrede No 638 Registration Division Theunissen, situated within the Matjhabeng Local Municipality in the Free State Province. The total development footprint of the project is approximately be 350 hectares. The power is connected to the national grid via the existing Theseus MTS 400 132 22 kV Substation.

Off-takers include Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Sibanye-Stillwater, Vodacom, Sasol, Afrimat, Old Mutual South Africa, Redefine Properties, Rio Tinto, and BRM Brands – representing a cross-section of industries committed to cutting costs and carbon.

EPC for the project was WBHO Construction, while financial partners include RMB – Rand Merchant Bank, Investec, Absa Group, Revego Fund Managers and Ubuzwe.
