  • Human rights law firm Richard Spoor Inc has filed an application for certification for a class action against the Exxaro Group.
  • This follows their class actions against the South32 Group, including BHP Billiton and Seriti Power, as well as against Anglo American and Thungela.
  • The reputable law firm and a champion of human rights said they seek justice for workers facing unacceptable conditions within the coal mining industry.

Specifically against the Exxaro Group, they seek accountability for alleged breaches of legal duties, negligence, and inadequate safety measures that have caused long-term damages to workers’ health and lives. The class action aims to represent coal miners who have suffered health complications directly linked to their work conditions. RSI alleged that, akin to the South32 Group and Anglo American Group, Exxaro failed to implement necessary safety measures, resulting in avoidable harm to their employees.

Green Building Africa promotes the need for net carbon zero buildings and cities in Africa. We are fiercely independent and encourage outlying thinkers to contribute to the #netcarbonzero movement. Climate change is upon us and now is the time to react in a more diverse and broader approach to sustainability in the built environment. We challenge architects, property developers, urban planners, renewable energy professionals and green building specialists. We also challenge the funding houses and regulators and the role they play in facilitating investment into green projects. Lastly, we explore and investigate new technology and real-time data to speed up the journey in realising a net carbon zero environment for our children.
