- The African island of São Tomé and Príncipe has a population of 211000 and lies close to the equator, west of Gabon.
- The small island has an electricity access rate of about 70%, with its power generation mix being predominantly fossil fuels and the balance from hydro.
- Out of the 35MW-installed capacity, only 58% is available to the grid due to ageing generation assets and lack of maintenance.
The UNDP and the AfDB are cooperating in an exciting project on the island of São Tomé and Príncipe for the appointment of services from a consulting firm specialising in the development of a small hydro-power plant (SHHP). The job entails designing a new mini hydro plant at the site of an old existing SHHP.
