  • When deciding whether a solar system is a good investment, do you look for a positive NPV or a negative NPV?
  • What are the tax benefits of a PV system in South Africa?
  • How do you define grid parity?

Find the answers to these and other questions in the 1-day Financing of PV Systems course which now takes place online, with live trainers, which means you can benefit no matter where you are based. You’ll learn how to calculate the financial viability of different Photovoltaic SSEG solar systems, such as off-grid, grid-tied (embedded), grid-tied with battery back-up. And how to ask the right questions and present the best arguments to understand and inform your clients. The course content is hands-on and interactive, and makes use of several case studies to give you insights into the successful financing of PV projects in South Africa.

Topics covered include:

  • Payback periods, Internal rate of return (IRR), Net present value (NPV), Cash flow analysis, levelised costs of electricity (LCOE)
  • Tax implications for PV System Owners – VAT and Income Tax (Act 12B implications), Grid parity
  • Financing options and application procedures with commercial banks, private financiers and venture capital Funds, PPAs (Power Purchase Agreements)

PLUS Neal Rampersadh, ABSA Sector Specialist: Power Purchase Agreements and Cash Flow Lending, will be on hand to explain what the banks look for when approving finance for a PV solar system.

This course is targeted towards solar business owners and CEOs, solar engineers and technicians with excellent technical experience but a lack of financial knowledge and salespersons who want to understand the product “PV” and how end clients benefit.

Green Building Africa promotes the need for net carbon zero buildings and cities in Africa. We are fiercely independent and encourage outlying thinkers to contribute to the #netcarbonzero movement. Climate change is upon us and now is the time to react in a more diverse and broader approach to sustainability in the built environment. We challenge architects, property developers, urban planners, renewable energy professionals and green building specialists. We also challenge the funding houses and regulators and the role they play in facilitating investment into green projects. Lastly, we explore and investigate new technology and real-time data to speed up the journey in realising a net carbon zero environment for our children.
