- Morocco’s Energy Minister, Leila Benali, said that her country will halt green hydrogen production by 2030 if it cannot offer a competitive product, citing the need for economies of scale and protection of national resources.
- She was answering questions in a recent parliament sitting.
“We won’t keep producing just for the sake of it,” she said. “If we cannot offer what other competing countries provide, Morocco will not invest its taxpayers’ money merely to export hydrogen.”
“The government isn’t offering opinions, but instead is planning projects that consider both the energy costs and the national economy,” she added.

Benali concluded by addressing concerns over infrastructure investment in energy, noting a lack of such investments in previous years but reaffirmed that the government had corrected the issue in coordination with partners. “Our main goal is to provide green, clean, and cost-effective energy.”
