- In the short term (2020-2030) two pillars are envisioned in Morocco’s National Hydrogen Strategy: the use of hydrogen as a feedstock in the local production of green ammonia and the export of green hydrogen to countries with ambitious decarbonisation goals.
Morocco has allocated 1 million hectares for green hydrogen projects as part of its national energy strategy. The country initially plans to provide 300,000 hectares to private investors, divided into lots of 10,000 to 30,000 hectares. The deal comes with tax incentives.
Nearly 40 green hydrogen proposals have been received in less than six months, the government reports. The first preliminary contracts for land — which will reserve sites for six months while developers carry out development works, are expected to be signed by the end of the year. Thereafter the government and developers will negotiate an “advanced study agreement”, which sets EPC, plant design plus terms and conditions for the projects.
