- The Green Connection and Natural Justice confirmed that the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources (DMPR) finally provided the record of the decision to grant TEEPSA environmental authorisation for exploratory drilling in block 5/6/7; a week later than the court-ordered deadline (26 August 2024).
According to The Green Connection’s Advocacy Officer, Lisa Makaula says, “We welcome the fact that the DMPR has finally delivered the record of the decision, albeit seven days late, because transparency is crucial for ensuring good governance and safeguarding public interest. This is why the delay raises some serious concerns because these are important documents that, we hope, will help us understand government’s process for approving TotalEnergies’ environmental authorisation to explore for oil and gas on our southwest coast. But nonetheless, our legal team is in the process of reviewing the documents and will provide updates, in terms of our options for the way forward.”
