Mali’s transitional government partners with China in 100 MW Safo solar project

  • On Tuesday 28 May 2024, Mali’s President of the Transition, Assimi Goïta, launched the construction of a 100 MW solar power plant in Safo, in the Koulikoro region, in partnership with China.
  • The Mali government will finance 50% of the project.
  • The announcement follows Mali’s laying the foundation stone a few days earlier for the 200MW Sanankoroba solar power plant in partnership with Russia’s Novawind, which is part of Rosatom. Read more

On Tuesday 28 May 2024, Mali’s President of the Transition, Assimi Goïta, launched the construction of a 100 MWp solar power plant in Safo, in the Koulikoro region. The plant, built in partnership with China, will cover 228 hectares. At the groundbreaking ceremony, Bintou Camara, Mali’s Minister of Energy and Water, stressed that “this project reflects President Goïta’s vision for an energy system based on renewable energies”. The project is expected to come online in 15 months.
