  • IPP, Red Rocket, has completed the main turbine build installations at Brandvalley Wind Farm in South Africa.
  • This milestone establishes Brandvalley as the first Bid Window 5 project in the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP) to achieve this feat since construction began in 2023.

The project, with a nameplate capacity of 144MV and located between Matjiesfontein and Sutherland, has drawn significant attention alongside its sibling project, Rietkloof Wind Farm (also with a nameplate capacity of 144MW) and Wolf Wind Farm in the Eastern Cape (85MW). The projects all reached financial close in February 2023 as part of a groundbreaking Round 5 of the REIPPPP for Red Rocket. Notably, the turbine installations were completed just 17 months after construction commenced.

Installing all 32 Vestas V150-4.5MW wind turbines represents a major step towards reaching the Commercial Operations Date (COD), expected to be quarter four, 2024.

Green Building Africa promotes the need for net carbon zero buildings and cities in Africa. We are fiercely independent and encourage outlying thinkers to contribute to the #netcarbonzero movement. Climate change is upon us and now is the time to react in a more diverse and broader approach to sustainability in the built environment. We challenge architects, property developers, urban planners, renewable energy professionals and green building specialists. We also challenge the funding houses and regulators and the role they play in facilitating investment into green projects. Lastly, we explore and investigate new technology and real-time data to speed up the journey in realising a net carbon zero environment for our children.
