Loss of five generating units at Kendal Power Station triggers stage 4 blackouts in South Africa

News flash

  • In the early hours of this morning, Eskom reported the loss of five generating units at Kendal Power Station and a generating unit at Duvha Power Station.
  • As a result, Stage 4 loadshedding (blackouts) will be implemented at 04:00 today until further notice.
  • No reason was given for the simultaneous loss of five generation at Kendal Power Station.

Last night Eskom reported:

  • Available generation: 25 927MW
  • Loadshedding: 1 648 MW
  • Unplanned breakdowns: 14 278 MW
  • Planned maintenance: 7 236 MW
