LONGi BLOCK – all in one containerised solar solution

LONGi has unveiled its LONGi BLOCK all in one containerised solar solution to the African market at the Africa Energy Forum 2026 in Cape Town, positioning the technology as a flexible and cost-effective alternative to diesel generation for temporary and remote power applications.

Following its successful introduction at SNEC, the LONGi BLOCK has now made its first appearance in Africa, targeting growing demand for rapidly deployable power solutions across construction sites, mining operations, emergency response projects and other off grid industrial applications.

The containerised system is designed to overcome one of Africa’s most pressing energy challenges by providing reliable power that can be deployed quickly and relocated as project requirements change.

A key differentiator of the LONGi BLOCK is its rapid deployment capability. Delivered as a pre-assembled and fully tested solution, the system requires only six workers and between three and four hours to complete commissioning on site. Unlike conventional ground mounted solar projects that can take more than 12 months to develop and construct, the LONGi BLOCK can be installed and operational within a week, making it particularly well suited for emergency power requirements and temporary project locations.

The system has been engineered around mobility and reusability. Once a project is completed, the solar installation can be folded back into a standard shipping container and transported to a new location. This approach allows developers, contractors and mining operators to treat the system as a reusable energy asset rather than investing in permanent infrastructure.

LONGi says the solution also delivers strong economic benefits compared with diesel generation. A single unit can replace approximately 20 tonnes of diesel consumption annually, creating significant fuel cost savings over a typical project period of two to three years while eliminating on-site emissions and noise.

The company has prioritised energy density within the design, incorporating high output solar modules to maximise generation from a compact footprint. In high irradiation regions, including many parts of sub-Saharan Africa, the system can deliver performance levels comparable to those of conventional solar power plants while requiring substantially less development time and site preparation.

Another advantage is the system’s compatibility with existing logistics infrastructure. Built to ISO container standards, the LONGi BLOCK can move through established freight and transport networks, reducing supply chain complexity and lowering deployment costs.

For off grid applications, the solution combines solar generation with battery energy storage. The battery system establishes the power baseline while solar production dynamically follows demand and operating conditions. An externally mounted battery cabinet connects directly to the container’s integrated power unit, which also includes connection points for diesel generators and grid supply.

This architecture enables seamless coordination between solar, battery storage, diesel generation and grid electricity, providing a multi-energy platform capable of delivering reliable power in a wide range of operating environments.

As African industries continue to seek cleaner, more flexible and cost-effective energy solutions, LONGi believes the LONGi BLOCK offers a practical pathway to reducing diesel dependence while accelerating access to dependable power across remote and temporary project sites.
