Living Future Institute Updates Framework for Affordable Housing

Five years ago the Institute launched the Living Building Framework for Affordable Housing to ensure that the benefits of Living Buildings and Living Products reach everyone. Thirty-four affordable housing projects across the U.S. are now leading the transformation toward a Living Future for all.

The framework outlines building strategies for multi-family affordable housing projects. We worked with a number of partners to identify how to overcome social, regulatory and financial barriers for applying deep green technologies to affordable housing.

The free resource includes case studies and in-depth information on how to achieve each Living Building Challenge 4.0 Imperative in affordable housing projects, and provides the instruments and inspiration from which we will ensure that Healthy Homes are affordable for everyone.

“We believe the Living Building Challenge, when used as a metric for tribal housing design, illuminates what is attainable, or the highest possible standards, that all humans, Indigenous or non-Indigenous, deserve. Moreover, we believe this project is an exciting test case for the overlap between LBC principles, such as biophilia, healthy materials, and Indigenous ways of being, doing and thinking.”

Everyone, regardless of economic status, should have access to housing that is healthy, safe, and affordable.

Green Building Africa promotes the need for net carbon zero buildings and cities in Africa. We are fiercely independent and encourage outlying thinkers to contribute to the #netcarbonzero movement. Climate change is upon us and now is the time to react in a more diverse and broader approach to sustainability in the built environment. We challenge architects, property developers, urban planners, renewable energy professionals and green building specialists. We also challenge the funding houses and regulators and the role they play in facilitating investment into green projects. Lastly, we explore and investigate new technology and real-time data to speed up the journey in realising a net carbon zero environment for our children.
