  • JinkoSolar has completed the delivery of 1GW N-type TOPCon bifacial solar panels (modules) for the first phase of the Delingha integrated solar-storage project in China.ย

Designed to withstand the extreme climate conditions in Delingha, Qinghaiโ€”including daily temperature fluctuations exceeding 20โ„ƒ, intense ultraviolet radiation, and frequent sandstormsโ€”JinkoSolarโ€™s highly efficient modules are bringing sustainable energy to the Qaidam Basin. This project marks a significant step forward in driving Chinaโ€™s large-scale new energy bases in the northwest โ€œdesert, gobi, and aridโ€ areas into a new stage characterized by higher efficiency and greater reliability.

In the Qaidam Basin, where average annual sunshine duration exceeds 2,719 hours and direct solar radiation intensity reaches 6,382 MJ/mยฒ, Jinkoโ€™s industry-leading N-type TOPCon modules demonstrate significant technological advantages, such as superior energy yield per watt, optimal all-weather performance, and higher overall generation gains. Specifically, the N-type TOPCon modules can annually yield around 6% more clean energy within the same land area.

Additionally, benefiting from the high natural reflectivity of desert sand, the modulesโ€™ high bifacial rate of 85% considerably boosts backside photoelectric conversion efficiency, generating an additional 3%โ€“5% power compared to conventional bifacial modules. Moreover, Jinkoโ€™s TOPCon modules have displayed exceptional resistance to UV degradation (within 2%) through rigorous UVID90 testing at 90 kWh/mยฒ (six times the IEC61215 UV standard of 15 kWh/mยฒ). Their first-year degradation is limited to just 1%, and annual linear degradation is only 0.4%. Combined with a low temperature coefficient of -0.29%/ยฐC, the modules maintain high power output even in surface temperatures exceeding 60ยฐC during summer. Even under low-light conditions (such as early morning and late evening), N-type TOPCon modules can extend the average daily effective power generation time by 1.2 hours, significantly improving system utilisation and ensuring stable, high-efficiency performance throughout the entire lifecycle of the power plant.

As the first renewable energy project in Western Qinghai using a thermal-storage concentrated solar power plant as a peak-shaving power source, this initiative achieves stable 24-hour electricity supply through coordinated solar PV and solar thermal energy storage. Once fully constructed, the Delingha base is expected to produce 1.8 billion kWh of electricity annuallyโ€”equivalent to reducing COโ‚‚ emissions by 650,000 tons or regenerating 360,000 cubic meters of forest area. It harmonises photovoltaic power generation with ecological restoration, establishing a global benchmark for โ€œhigh energy yield, high reliability, and high economic viabilityโ€ in the plateau-gobi desert area at an altitude of 3,000 meters.

Green Building Africa promotes the need for net carbon zero buildings and cities in Africa. We are fiercely independent and encourage outlying thinkers to contribute to the #netcarbonzero movement. Climate change is upon us and now is the time to react in a more diverse and broader approach to sustainability in the built environment. We challenge architects, property developers, urban planners, renewable energy professionals and green building specialists. We also challenge the funding houses and regulators and the role they play in facilitating investment into green projects. Lastly, we explore and investigate new technology and real-time data to speed up the journey in realising a net carbon zero environment for our children.
