- Project will deliver 15 MWh of energy storage capacity to support off grid electrification in rural Senegal.
- Liquid cooled battery systems designed to operate reliably in extreme heat and remote locations.
Jinko ESS, a subsidiary of Jinko Solar Co Ltd, has secured a 15 MWh order for its SunGiga energy storage systems in Senegal, marking a significant step in expanding access to reliable electricity in West Africa.
The project will see advanced battery storage systems deployed across 45 remote villages, enabling distributed off grid power networks. Once operational, the systems are expected to provide stable nighttime electricity to tens of thousands of people, addressing persistent challenges related to power shortages and unreliable supply in rural areas.
To meet the specific conditions of the project, Jinko ESS delivered a customised solution tailored to dispersed village locations, limited infrastructure and extreme heat. The SunGiga 261 kWh energy storage system features a highly integrated and modular design, reducing transport and installation complexity while lowering overall project costs. This makes the system well suited to decentralised rural off grid applications.

The solution also incorporates intelligent liquid cooling thermal management, ensuring consistent temperature control and stable performance in Senegal’s hot climate. This design supports continuous power delivery and long term energy security for local communities.
According to Asif S W, Head of Sales at Jinko ESS for the Middle East Africa and Central Asia region, the Senegal deployment reflects the company’s broader strategy for the continent. He said Africa plays a critical role in the global energy transition, adding that Jinko ESS aims to support renewable energy development and grid optimisation through technology driven solutions that respond to local needs.
