  • IRENA has been continuing to share its message on the need to address structural barriers to meet the tripling renewables target by 2030 by advancing the key enablers: Policy and Regulations; Supply Chains, Skills and Capacity; Finance; International Collaboration; Infrastructure and System Operation.
  • Spurring Africa, IRENA will be hosting the Accelerated Partnership for Renewables in Africa (APRA) from 12-16 October 2024 in Nairobi, Kenya.

As the latest Renewable Energy Statistics released by IRENA shows, the world risks missing the tripling renewables target unless renewables capacity grows at a minimum 16.4% rate annually through 2030. The report also reveals ongoing patterns of progress concentration in geography, which threatens to exacerbate the decarbonisation divide and pose a significant barrier to achieving the tripling target.

Acknowledging that Africa is one of the regions lagging behind in the progress, IRENA is advancing the Accelerated Partnership for Renewables in Africa (APRA) initiative and is preparing an investment forum focused on APRA’s member countries on 12-16 October 2024 in Nairobi, Kenya.

APRA is an international alliance led by African countries with a high ambition on renewables. It aims to accelerate the implementation of their energy transitions and promote green industrialisation. The initiative focuses on renewables-based economic growth, industrial development, job creation, and improved lives and livelihoods. APRA leverages political leadership to drive action, innovation, and new models of cooperation. The APRA Investment Forum will build projects pipeline and mobilise investments in the region.
